Thinks Be To God!

Good morning! I’m back from a hiatus, having taken some time for other work. And no, the title does not contain a typo!

Joshua 1:8 records the Lord’s instructions to Joshua following Moses’ death, in which Lord tells him to meditate on the Book of the Law day and night. Psalm 1:2 says the man who does so is blessed! As I have been endeavoring to discipline my thought life, our Father has been obliging and blessing me by waking me in the night with Scriptures to meditate upon.

Last night I awoke, my thoughts still warm with memories of a pleasant visit with my family celebrating the True Light of Christmas and exchanging gifts. And the Lord brought 2 Corinthians 9:15 to my mind. Paul was encouraging liberality in giving, teaching that generosity overflows in thanksgiving to God. He describes the praise and the prayer and the “surpassing grace” God has given us, and then writes in v.15: “Thanks be to God for his indescribable gift!”

The great “Gift” of Christmas is Very God, found in flesh and laid in a manger! And who can begin to describe such an indescribable Gift? Certainly this venue is too limiting for such an attempt. So instead, as you give thanks to God for the indescribable Gift of himself this Christmas season, as Joshua 1:8 and Psalm 1:2 suggest, “Thinks be to God…!”

It’s something to think about…
